Portuguese The University of the French Antilles and Guyana is organizing an interdisciplinary conference with the purpose of creating a meeting point for research specialists doing research on the process of 'patrimonialization of heritage' in relation to the construction and development of the insular and continental territories of the Americas and the Caribbean. Date: March 2-4, 2011 NEW: Call for panels/papers: Rethinking Development in an Age of Scarcity and Uncertainty. New Values, Voices and Alliances for Increased Resilience. NEW: Call for papers: Poverty and Social Protection Conference 2011 This conference will focus on issues of poverty and its eradication, social inequality, race relations and policy management and mismanagement with an international perspective. Date: March 1-3, 2011 NEW: Call for papers: Education and Development Conference 2011 NEW: Education For All - Reaching the Marginalized [in Danish] The purpose of this event arranged by the Danish Ministry of Education and the National UNESCO Commission is to present and discuss the recommendations of the 'Education for All' (EFA) Global Monitoring Report 2010. NEW: Global South-South Development Expo 2010 NEW: From Impunity to Accountability: Africa's Development in the 21st Century Whatever Happened to North-South? The first Joint Conference organised by the International Political Science Association (IPSA) and the European Consortium of Political Research (ECPR) will explore the continuing relevance of the international North-South divide. The Conference will be organised into the following broad themes: 1: Changing patterns of ir/regional integration; 2) Political regimes, democratic consolidation and the quality of democracy; 3) Economic trends and political, social and cultural changes. Date: February 16-19, 2011 Call for papers: The Global Summit II: Uniting Humanity for a Sustainable Future Planning Africa 2010 - Beyond Crisis: Opportunities and Actions The intention of this conference is to: 1) Strengthen and grow African planning networks and external international connections by attracting key delegates; 2) Respond to global economic and ecological crises from an African planning perspective by articulating and publicizing leading planning practice and solutions that are shared at the conference; and 3) Strengthen the planning profession in Africa by branding and publicizing the conference and its outputs. Date: September 13-15, 2010 STEPS Conference 2010: Pathways to Sustainability The STEPS Centre based at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) at Sussex University is hosting this conference, which will investigate the new politics of environment, development and social justice in light of current and future changes in environment and social systems. The conference will bring together researchers and practitioners engaged in bringing cutting-edge social science perspectives to environmental sustainability questions, and address a range of themes related to a.o climate change, agriculture, urbanisation, energy etc. Date: September 23-24, 2010 Nordic Africa Days 2010: Time Space Africa - Reconnecting the Continent The Nordic Africa Days 2010 will be centred on the spatial turn that the social sciences and humanities, which a.o. has echoed in research on Africa with focus on conflict and territoriality, natural resources and statehood etc. Date: September 30 - October 1, 2010 This conference of Science Centre professionals aims at exchanging views, information and data to understand the role of Science Centres in developing countries in promoting a knowledge society for sustainable and responsible growth. It is expected that the resolutions taken in the Workshop after elaborate professional discussions would help Governments to take note of the profound role the Science Centres are playing in national development and to take proactive gestures to support the Science Centre activities for national growth. Date: October 11-14, 2010 What migration for which development in Africa? The Applied Economic Research Center for Development (CREAD) of the University of Bouzaréah in Algeria is hosting a meeting on migration and development in an attempt to map the various forms and impacts of migration in an African context. The meeting will focus on all aspects of scientific approaches and academic products in a necessarily interdisciplinary outlook. In relation hereto a call has been issued for papers. Papers with a gender focus or based on fieldwork are particularily welcomed. Date: October 19-22, 2010 Nordic Research Day on Impact Assessment Nordic Research Day 2010 is intended to create a space for researchers to meet, exchange ideas and experiences, learn about each others’ work and explore common research agendas. The event is open to everyone who is engaged in, or interested in, research on impact assessment. The format is designed to allow for plenty of open discussions, exchange and networking. Date: October 27, 2010 The Evaluation conclave 2010: Making Evaluation Matter The Conclave will bring together sector experts, leading practitioners, thought leaders and development professionals from across the globe. The idea is to build bridges of theory, practice, and ideas across groups and to potentially form new ones. Core to the event will be parallel small group workshops on a range of themes; most of them lead by teams of global and South Asian thought leaders. ' Date: October 25-29, 2010 Call for papers: Politics of Global Land Grab The Future Agricultures Consortium (FAC) is hosting an international workshop on ‘Global Land Grabbing' at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) with focus on the politics of global land grabbing and agrarian change. Date: April 6-8, 2011 Development Models of Emerging Countries - Characteristics, Scope and Challenges The objective of this conference organised by Laval University in Quebec is to examine the characteristics of different development models used by emerging countries (BRIC, VISTA, Next Eleven countries) in order to identify their significance for other developing countries and other global players. Themes include a.o. economic development, governance, labour and trade, the economic crisis. Date: November 8-10, 2010 Society, Culture, and Nature in Latin America - New Political Tendencies 5th Nolan Conference organised by the Nordic Latin American Research Network. The conference takes place on the background of a decade of intense and radical changes in the political map of Latin America. Themes to discussed include: The Political Ecology of extractivism: Social conflicts over access and control with natural resources in Latin America; New forms of democracy and political cultures; National and local responses to climate policies and regulatory instruments; and more. Date: November 10-12, 2010 ICACD 2010: Post Independent Africa: Cultural Imperatives for Development ICACD 2010 will be an interdisciplinary conference of Academics, artists, cultural and development workers, Government agencies and policy makers and all people committed to working to see the development of Africa a reality. Date: November 14-17, 2010 African Migrations Workshop: The Contribution of African Research to Migration Theory The workshop is being organised by the International Migration Institute and L'Institut fondamental d'Afrique noire, Cheikh Anta Diop University. Date: November 16-19, 2010 Development & Aid Effectiveness:Interrogating Pedagogies in (International) Development Studies The conference aims to provide a forum for academics, development practitioners, policy makers and researchers to exchange ideas on how to teach development studies in a manner that contributes to development and aid effectiveness. The conference further aims to explore new methodologies that are ‘transformative’ and ‘relevant’ within the development and aid industry and, which contribute our understanding of the role of academic institutions as agents of development especially for poverty reduction. Date: November 18-19, 2010 Equality, Growth and Sustainability – Do they mix? The conference is a forum for examining if and how questions of equality, growth and sustainability can be reconciled in organisations and implemented in general practice. In addition to the key note speeches, there will be two kinds of interactive conference formats: parallel paper sessions and workshops. Date: November 25-26, 2010 The conference on "Transitions to Sustainability" to be held at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, will seek to explore challenges ahead on the pathway to sustainable development and the creation of resilient societies, with particular emphasis on the role of technology, science and engineering. Date: November 30 - December 3, 2010 Environmental Change and Migration: From Vulnerabilities to Capabilities The conference aims to shed light on the complex dynamics of environmentally induced migration and the associated societal processes. Toward this end, it seeks to further the interdisciplinary debate and exchange of knowledge from the fields of migration, climate change, disaster, development, and others. Date: December 5-9, 2010 Conference on Poverty in the Americas The meeting calls together leading scholars (in dialogue with other actors) from throughout the world to collectively advance the understanding of what new forms of governance are emerging in the Americas and how they relate to the poor. Date: February 2-4, 2011 African Engagements: On whose terms? AEGIS 4th European Conference on African Studies The conference is open to all disciplines and methodological approaches in the Social Sciences and Humanities. The Organising Committee strongly encourages panel proposals that look into how the world can study and engage a resurgent Africa on the basis of mutual respect. Date: June 15-18, 2011 |
