Food security in a climate of change - The CABI Global Summit The CABI Global Summit will bring together environment and agriculture ministers and other senior government officials from around the world. Together, they will consider policies, practices and technologies that can help improve food security against this background of change. Date: October 19-21, 2009 AfricaAdapt's Knowledge Sharing Innovation Fund AfricaAdapt is an independent bilingual network (French/English) focused exclusively on Africa. The Network’s aim is to facilitate the flow of climate change adaptation knowledge for sustainable livelihoods between researchers, policy makers, civil society organisations and communities, who are vulnerable to climate variability and change across Africa. To help achieve this, we offer innovation grants to African-based initiatives that seek to address the barriers to knowledge sharing faced by marginalised or “hard to reach” communities affected by climate change. The AfricaAdapt Knowledge Sharing Innovation Fund is accepting expressions of interest (deadline August 1st 2009) for grants of up to US$10,000. NEW: Climate and Disaster Governance's Student research bursary. The Climate and Disaster Governance Programme is offering research bursaries of up to US$1000 to support research at the national or sub-national level in developing countries on topics that fall under the four themes: - Citizen engagement and accountability in climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction policy processes The deadline for the current round of applications is 31st July 2009. Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change (APN) research grants APN is calling for proposals under the ARCP programme for regional global change research, and the Capable programme for capacity development. APN supports activities with focus on the Asia-Pacific region in relation to climate; ecosystems, biodiversity and land use; changes in the atmospheric, terrestrial and marine domains; use of resources; cross-cutting issues and science-policy linkages. The call is for nationals of the Asia-Pacific region. Deadline for applications: August 14, 2009. Climate Change Technologies Conference - How to accelerate development and deployment. The conference offers an opportunity to get an overview of forefront climate technology and to debate how industry, public authorities and science should link up to make green economy become a reality. Call for applications: Increasing African participation in adaptation events The Climate Change Adaptation in Africa (CCAA) research and capacity development program supports activities that strengthen the capacities of African stakeholders with regard to climate change adaptation. Deadline for application: September 15, 2009. 4th International Conference on Community Based Adaptation Community-based adaptation (CBA) recognizes that communities already possess much of the knowledge and skills required to cope with the expected impacts of climate change. This conference, partly organised by the the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) will consist of a field visit to CBA projects in Tanzania and interactive discussions on a.o. adaptation planning and practice, CBA practices in different sectors and ecosystems and building awareness for mainstreaming CBA. Date: February 21-27, 2010 NEW: World Climate Conference 3 (WCC3) - Better Climate Information for a Better Future The overarching theme of the Conference is "Climate prediction and information for decision-making: focusing on scientific advances in seasonal to interannual timescales, taking into account multi-decadal prediction". Date: August 31 - September 4, 2009 Job: IIED Senior Researcher - Forests and Climate Change, UK IIED is looking for a senior researcher to drive the development and implementation of a programme of research and partnership building in several countries like Uganda, Tanzania, Ghana, Vietnam and Brazil on forest-based climate strategies. Date: November 5, 2009 - 08:30-12:30 ICIMOD Competition for Journalists: Media Reports on Climate Change in the Himalayas The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) is organising a competition for journalists with a thematic focus on climate change in the Himalayas. Date: May 30 - June 3, 2010 Call for papers: Special issue on forced migration and mobilities research Submissions are invited for a special issue of an academic journal looking at Forced Migration and Mobilities Research. This seminar brings together three contributions to this debate that focus on: (1) proposals aiming at taxing carbon emissions at the border with the aim of leveling the playing field between countries with different carbon emission limits; (2) plans to use product carbon footprint (PCF) labels to encourage climate-friendly consumption; (3) emerging carbon footprint standards and their possible trade impacts. Energy and Environment Partnership (EEP) with Mekong region countries is a grant offering program to promote the use of renewable energy, energy efficiency and clean technologies, financed by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and the Nordic Development Fund (NDF).
