Strategic Research, 2009 - Health, Food and Welfare

The Danish Council for Strategic Research has recently issued a call for Phase 1 applications for funding of research activities within:

Food, Nutrition and Gender: Lessons learned and recommendations for future action

The seminar is organised by the Evaluation Department and the Technical Advisory Services in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the three research networks (ENRECA Health, DDRN and the Danish Water Forum) and will provide an opportunity to discuss interventions and policies to combat causes of malnutrition and make suggestions for future policy changes.

First African Organic Conference 2009: Fast tracking sustainable development in Africa through harnessing Organic Agriculture and Biotechnology

This Conference will focus on clearly bringing out attributes of Organic Agriculture as a science relevant to food security, poverty alleviation and natural resources conservation in Africa. The workshop on May 22, 2009, is specifically addressed to bringing recent report results on food security and organic farming into focus and future development, and this workshop is supported by DDRN.

African Fellows Programme:  9th Call for Pre-Proposals

The Rothamsted International African Fellows Programme is now inviting pre-proposals under its 9th Call. The aim of the Programme is to support sustainable agriculture in sub-Saharan Africa by catalysing innovative solutions needed to achieve food security.

Food security in a climate of change - The CABI Global Summit

Call for proposals under the EU - African Union Scientific Partnership

This call is entirely dedicated to research for Africa. The call is structured around two major issues - Water and Food Security, and Better Health for Africa.
Core thematic areas under Water and Food Security are water and sanitation/hygiene, agriculture and sustainable production systems, food security, climate change impacts, vulnerability and risks.

Deadline: January 14, 2010.

CPWF is launching a call for open competition for projects with focus on the Andes, Mekong and Nile basins in relation to water management and governance, local livelihoods and development challenges.

Agriculture and Rural Development Day 2009: The road after Copenhagen: priority strategies and actions for ensuring food security and rural development in the face of climate change

This event will be held in Copenhagen, coinciding with the United Nations Climate Negotiations (UNFCCC COP-15) and will bring together policy makers and negotiators, rural development practitioners, producers, civil society and the agricultural and climate change scientific community to highlight the importance of agriculture in climate change and to identify the "no-regret" priorities for agriculture and food security where the world needs to take action.

Job: Senior Scientist, Nutrition & Biodiversity at Bioversity International

Bioversity International is developing a programme of work on the use of biodiversity resources for food and nutrition. EU Call for Proposals 2009 - Global Programme on Agricultural Research for Development (ARD)

In the context of the EU Food Security Thematic Programme (FSTP) an open call for proposals has been launched. The present action is specifically related to the FSTP component "Supporting the delivery of international public goods contributing to food security: research and technology", and is targeting global public goods in the field of agricultural research.

CCAFS Launch Conference - Building food security in the face of climate change

To facilitate new research on the interactions between climate change, agriculture, natural resource management and food security, the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and the Earth System Science Partnership (ESSP) have initiated the Challenge Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS). This conference will be held to launch the CCAFS and will bring together the research and development community, policy makers, donors and other stakeholders.

Sustainable Food Systems

The Danish Academy of Technical Sciences (ATV) and the international Council of Academies of Engineering and Technological Sciences (CAETS) are hosting an international conference to discuss some of the pressing issues related to world food systems and sustainability. The aim is to facilitate an open debate between universities, industry, agriculture, NGOs and GOs in order to identify problems and effective solutions to increase food production, reduce poverty and hunger and reduce over-exploitation of natural resources.

Agricultural price volatility: prospects, challenges and possible solutions

This seminar, organised by the University of Barcelona, the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development and the International Food & Agricultural Trade Policy Council, will look at the challenges related to agricultural and food price volatility, a.o in relation to food security in developing countries. Benefit-sharing Fund: Call for Proposals 2010 ´

The Call for Proposals 2010 under the Benefit-sharing Fund of the International Treaty, which will invest more than USD 10 million in projects globally, is now opened for its biennial cycle 2010-2011. The thematic focus of the Fund is helping ensure sustainable food security by assisting farmers to adapt to climate change through a targeted set of high impact activities on the conservation and sustainable use of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture.
