Public seminar: World Development Report 2009 - Spatial disparities in development

’Reshaping economic geography’ is the title of the World Bank Report 2009 that was launched in November 2008. The overall objective of the report is to investigate how the gradual concentration of economic activities within nations relates to spatial disparities in levels of welfare.

This seminar focussed on the spatial dimensions of development, in particular two central themes in the report: rural-urban relations and regional inequality. A group of key development scholars and a representative from the World Bank Report 2009 Core Group presented their views on the report. A subsequent panel session opened for a broader discussion of the pertinent issues raised throughout the day.

Date: October 31, 2008 - 8:30-16:00
Venue: Department of Geography and Geology, University of Copenhagen
Øster Voldgade 10, 1350 Copenhagen, Auditorium I, Section 5, 2nd floor.

For more information, please download the programme [pdf, 90KB] and/or send an email to the main organiser of the seminar, Niels Fold.
